Real Life Stories
HR & Training Administrator
Tarnia has only been with the business since November 2017 but already has had the opportunity to progress her career from an Administrative Assistant role into HR as HR and Training Administrator. We love people who demonstrate The SCL Way and live our values in everything they do. Tarnia showed this from day one. She was recognised early on from her peers, the Managers in the department she supported and the Directors, including our HR Director who was keen to give her the opportunity to move into HR. No one at SCL is just a number, everyone is known to at least one member of the Board of Directors but more often than not by all of them. If you demonstrate our values as Tarnia has done, worked hard and delivered excellence throughout as Tarnia has done, we don’t have any red tape to stop you applying for a new job within a short space of time, everyone has equal opportunities to progress. Tarnia is now on a steep learning curve, learning the core skills of a new profession but fortunately Tarnia only has a few words about her new job "I love it!"
Why is Tarnia holding a Cup of Tea?
Because....to Tarnia, a cup of tea has to be perfect and then as you drink it if feels like pure perfection. This is a direct reflection of Tarnia’s working life. Every piece of work Tarnia does, is done to the highest standards, she takes great pride in everything she does and ultimately strives for perfection. Tarnia gets her job satisfaction from doing a good job and making others happy, which is exactly what she does at SCL. When Tarnia goes home at night she likes to know she has delivered her work exceptionally well, has done everything required of her, has delivered to her team and can then sit back and relax, yet satisfied with maybe a glass of wine instead!
We asked Tarnia:
What are you most proud of since working for SCL?
My biggest achievement is winning the Reliable Award at our Quarterly Excellence Awards. To know that my colleagues went out of their way to nominate me, to see the lovely things they wrote about me and then the Board of Directors to choose me as the winner against our Reliable Award made me and my family immensely proud. I started at SCL in November 2017 and it was a great feeling to be recognised in such a short space of time!
What is your favourite food?
Any home comfort food or pasta dishes!
If you could take only two items with you to a deserted island what would they be?
My iPad and my handbag (as I’m sure I’ll find something useful in there).
What makes you mega happy?
I love spending time with my 2 brothers and 2 sisters! We all get on so well and they never fail to make me laugh!
If you could spend an evening with anyone, famous or not, who would it be? And where would you go?
It would be with my best-friend. I’ve known her since school so it’s nice when we get the chance to reminisce and laugh about the memories we have. Anywhere with comfortable seating and a good selection of drinks, as we normally get lost in conversation for hours…
What is the best thing about working for SCL?
One of the best things about working for SCL is that everyone is always willing to help and support.
