Real Life Stories
Operations Manager for Primary
Chris has worked for SCL since leaving college in 2005, has climbed the ladder from a football tutor, to Regional Manager, Holiday Club Manager, Business Development Manager and now Operations Manager and is an SCL person through and through. In Chris’ own words “through SCL’s support, training and guidance, I have gained a wealth of experience in all areas of business and people management” Chris shares SCLs values in abundance, hence why he has stayed with SCL and succeeds at SCL. We employ people who share the company’s values, when they do, they become a hugely important and successful part of our team. Chris is a huge part of our SCL family and when you have such an important family member who is dedicated and committed to SCL, the team and the children in our care, you know everyone is in very safe hands.
Why is Chris kissing under a Chicken?
Because...Chris loves chicken! Chicken, being high in protein is what the body needs for growth and maintenance and this is what Chris looks for in work, his team and his career. High performers in sport all share a love for a high protein diet, high performers in work all share a love for achieving success and sharing in each others success. Chris is someone who not only focusses on his own personal and professional growth but also that of his team. Chris is so committed to his team and SCL, he is often seen rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck in if needs be, but he also knows his role is now to guide, lead and inspire his team. He has appointed many promotions within his department since his appointment to Operations Manager in 2015, anyone working under his Leadership has every opportunity to grow and flourish.
We asked Chris:
What are you most proud of since working at SCL?
I would have to say my journey to becoming Operations Manager for Primary. To see my hard work and dedication rewarded over the years is very satisfying. I’m most proud of all those Friday evenings when I look back and think “That was a good week. My team did well”
What is your favourite food?
Crisps (not healthy ones) – I also despise them because I like them so much
If you could take only two items with you to a deserted island what would they be?
A golf club and a golf ball – I really need to get better at that sport. Plus I spend a lot of my time in bunkers so would be a perfect place to practice
What makes you mega happy?
Aside from crisps, burning them off down the gym or spending the evening with the wife watching one of the hundreds of Netflix series (I also like watching football lots as well)
If you could spend an evening with anyone, famous or not, who would it be? And where would you go?
Lots of different options here. I’ll go for random one…Ryan Reynolds to come round for a takeaway and a few beers. I like his sarcasm, I think we would get along well.
What is the best thing about working for SCL?
Definitely the people. SCL recruit against their values which means every team member shares the same vision. Through good and challenging times, it’s certainly easier when you know you have a solid team to rally around you.
