Who owns the business?

SCL is a family run business, with the owners, Lewis Field and Steve Franks. Lewis and Steve, being inspired by their own professional Football and Sports coaching background, made the decision to set up the SCL Education Group in 1999, when they were in their early 20’s in order to inspire and motivate children and young people. Brad Rushton has been appointed as MD of the SCL Education Group in 2020 and he is responsible for day to day running of the business. 

Where would I be based?

Depending on the vacancy, you may be based at SCL’s Head Office, known as our Support Centre which is in Sandhurst, Berkshire, and is close to the Surrey / Hampshire / Berkshire border.   We have vacancies for staff to be based at Sports Clubs, colleges and schools throughout the country, from Exeter to Newcastle and everything in between. You may also be offered home working opportunities during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Many of our team are based in the region they live in. If you apply for a job with us, we will find a position as local to you as possible, however if you have a desire for internal promotion for a role further afield, we have had many staff moving into a new location when the right opportunity arises.

 

How many staff are in the business?

We have over 350 staff employed across the business as well as 200+ casual workers delivering our holiday club provision.

 

What training and development do you offer for your staff?

We have a wide range of training opportunities from Apprenticeships in Sport, Childcare or Customer Service to teacher training opportunities with the option for individuals to study their DTTLs to enable them to teach young adults from 16-18 years of age.  If there is a course that would benefit your role (be it marketing, sales or finance or anything else), we will encourage you to pursue it. In 2021 we will be rolling out the government backed “kick start programme” across many of our business functions. We ensure that everyone is able to meet with their manager to discuss their work and future development.  Alongside that, we offer mentoring schemes where you can speak to another member of the team for guidance and advice which can be very reassuring when starting a new role.

What opportunities are there for promotion?

In short….loads! We are a growing company and we love nothing more than promoting our own team. We have lots of success stories where our employees have had one or a number of promotions during their time at SCL.  Opportunities for progression start with Apprentices.  We run our own Apprenticeship scheme where we are able to recruit young people and nurture our own talent, with career paths being available into children services, teaching and administration.  Not only that our staff throughout the business are encouraged to apply for different roles within their own and other departments.  Many employees in our Senior Management team have been promoted from within.

Are there opportunities for me to meet other members of the team if I work remotely?

Yes, both professionally and socially.  We have Regional Managers who will keep in constant touch with you. During the pandemic we launched our wellbeing channel to support our staff working remotely to engage them in various social events to ensure our staff are supported. You will also attend regular team training and CPD days where you will meet your team, share ideas and build some strong and lasting relationships.   We also arrange two company wide social events in the summer and at Christmas and we have a business updates which keep you updated with all SCL news!
